Born and raised in Los Angeles, California; Joseph began studying drums and percussion at the age of ten. His parents would invest in drum set lessons at Gard's Music in Glendora, Ca. He spiked interest in drumming in his Church's worship team on Sundays as well as participate in his Elementary Schools Jazz & Concert Band. His taste in music would influence him to perform & record in local punk/ rock/ reggae/ funk bands across LA County & San Bernardino County. A spark would ignite when he would perform with his friends “grunge-rock” band from high-school at the Whiskey-A-Go-GO in West Hollywood. Continuing his education at Citrus College is where he would build his skills & network of musicians he would soon be working with for the next 10 years.
Studying in world, latin, symphonic/ classical, jazz, funk, pop & rock music in both percussion and drum set had built a solid foundation of experience to prepare him for performing with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Ron King, and Martha Reeves. Doors were soon opened to assist on drum-set in Cal-Poly Pomona’s Jazz Band; volunteer in the Azusa Pacific University marching band on snare drum; assist in a jazz rhythm workshop at Workman High-School/ Gladstone High-school/ Azusa High-School; serve in worship teams such as the Cause Church/ First Presbytarian Church/ Summit Church/ Shadow Mountain Community Church/ Christ Church of the Valley/ Crosswalk Church/ Active Church.
